As the world convenes for COP30, sports’ immense reach and cultural resonance make it a high-leverage entry point for climate action. The sports ecosystem both experiences climate risks (extreme weather disrupting schedules, heat affecting athletes and spectators, sea-level rise threatening coastal venues) and drive.

Organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection in partnership with General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), this session will explore how sports can be strategically mobilized to advance climate goals across Africa, the Mediterranean and Latin America. By examining community tournaments that reduce waste, regional leagues promoting clean energy, and collaborative youth initiatives, participants will identify pathways for scaling impact through policy, finance and cross-sector partnerships.

The side event takes place in the Blue Zone of COP30. Kindly note that accreditation is necessary and that access is restricted to official delegations, accredited observers, and media.
