In response to the growing popularity of outdoor sports, the shortage of sports facilities in Danish parks and natural areas, and occasional conflicts over access, the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF) and the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities (LOA) launched a pilot project for ‘trail centres’. Located in or near nature, these centres provide individuals and sports associations with places to meet, train and access services and information about outdoor activities.
The centres encourage active engagement with nature by offering guidance on the local environment and how to protect it. They aim to deepen people’s appreciation of the landscapes that support their activities, while safeguarding habitats and species by directing sports away from vulnerable areas.
